Attention O'C's Crew!  Permission slips for rock climbing are due TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, 3/9.  As I mentioned, I cannot schedule a date or time until all slips and medical forms are returned.  It's going to be totally awesome, so please return slips tomorrow so we can go challenge ourselves as a Crew!

February Break!

posted Feb 19, 2011, 12:24 PM by Evan O'Connell

Have a wonderful break everyone.  Rest up, relax and enjoy the time you have with friends and family.

Please also remember that you have significant work to complete over the break in all four major subjects.  Below you will find descriptions of your Break Homework for Science, SS, Math, and English.  You can also find it on my Homework Tracker.  Good luck, and have a wonderful week off!

Science: Complete packet by reading articles and finding the main idea.  This will be due the day we return.

SS: Read and leave tracks on the 2 articles about the Egyptian Revolution.  Find the main ideas of each article.  Then create a character map for one of the people involved in the Revolution.  Finally, write two scripts like the scripts we wrote in class: one script should be from the perspective of Hosni Mubrarak and one script should be from the perspective of an Egyptian revolutionary.

Math: Complete "Pin the Number on the Donkey" packet.  The first page contains instructions, so make sure you read everything!

English: Finish reading Chains and complete Vocab List #3.

Wow, what can I say to adequately describe how proud I am of all of you for preparing your student-led conferences?  You all did a fabulous job, and you worked so hard to pull together portfolios that represented you as learners.  Let's make next round of SLCs even better.  But again, so proud!

Elections for Penny Pounders and MSAC Rep on Friday

posted Oct 27, 2010, 1:32 PM by Evan O'Connell

Just a reminder that we will hold elections for 2 Penny Pounders and 1 MSAC representative on Friday before our SPOOOOOOOOKY Croooow celebration.  I know that we agreed to share the penny pounding responsibilities, but we really need to elect just two people to help streamline the counting process.  We will discuss this more in Crew tomorrow.

Additionally, we will elect our MSAC representative.  This person will be extremely important in ensuring that our Crew has a voice in school-wide decisions.  I for one can't wait to see you take on more leadership roles within the school!  Remember that even if you're not elected this round, there will be many many opportunities to represent our Crew in the future.

MELS Student Action Committee

posted Oct 26, 2010, 8:30 PM by Evan O'Connell

As I announced in Crew today, we will be holding elections this Friday in Crew to vote for our MELS Student Action Committee representative.  The Student Action Committee will be your opportunity to make your voice heard!  The student you elect on Friday will represent your Crew's interests and concerns at committee meetings, and will be responsible to report back in Crew.  The Committee will meet Mondays and Thurdays before school from 8:00-8:30 with Mr. Thomas.  If you're interested in running for a position, please advocate with your Crew advisor.  If you need more specific information about the Student Action Committee, please get in touch with Mr. Thomas.  Let's get some student representation here at MELS!
